Education & Training

OAR offers a variety of programs in both the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center (ADC) and Pre-Release Center (PRC), as well as the Loudoun County Work Release Center (WRC). In any given week, OAR has between 25-30 scheduled classes and support groups that focus on developing coping, vocational, and life skills. These programs include:

  • Inmate Support Groups
  • Employability and Workplace Skills
  • Keyboarding and Computer Skills
  • Parenting Skills
  • Financial Planning
  • Life Skills
  • Responsible Fatherhood Workshops
  • Toastmasters
  • Grief and Loss
  • Conflict Resolution
  • Anger Management
  • Impact of Crime Awareness
  • College Correspondence Courses
  • Pre-Release Seminars

For the prison population, in which 60% of all inmates have literacy and math skills at or below the 8th grade level, skills-based classes are essential to properly prepare offenders for release.

Many of our programs are run by volunteer instructors. To find out more information about volunteering, please click here. If you would like to get involved with teaching our classes, please contact our Volunteer Program.
